In 10th grade, students are placed in those classes that can best prepare them for the baccalaureate track (French or International Baccalaureate) they wish to pursue at the time. The classes are therefore grouped according to the perceived inclinations of students, for which we use the term “motivation.” The school thus has three such categories, corresponding to anticipated areas of concentration: literature, economics and social sciences, and science. The directrice counsels students and their parents with respect to these options, but the final choice is always left to students and parents. Our goal for 10th grade is to give each student an opportunity to explore his/her area of predilection, while preserving the opportunity to make a different choice at year-end. In the fullest sense, this is the time for students to define their choices. In 10th grade, students may also elect to continue to study science, history and geography in English, or to take any of these subjects in French if it seems more suitable for their emerging future plans.
